CBD General Info:

What is CBD: Cannabidiol?:

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is one of the two most important cannabinoid components in the Cannabis sativa L. plant. THC, the other main compound, can have a psychoactive effect but CBD, in contrast, is psychotropic, acts on the central nervous system but does not have the psychoactive effects of THC, it actually antagonizes the effects caused by THC.

At this time, CBD is the cannabinoid that is recognized as having most potentially beneficial effects for the treatment of various symptoms and diseases. It is also the one with the greatest therapeutic margin, with minor side effects in a wide range of doses. In general, CBD is very well tolerated.

Recently, science and modern extraction techniques have now made it possible for Cannabinoids and specifically CBD to be isolated from industrial hemp plants.

Summary of Current CBD Law:

There all two principal varieties of the cannabis plant: marijuana and industrial hemp. Hemp is defined legal as any Cannabis sativa plant with under 0.3% THC content. CBD obtained from the mature stalks of the hemp plant is legal to buy and sell throughout the United States.

Additionally, CBD obtained from the flowers of industrial hemp plants which are grown in states that are compliant with the 2014 US Farm Bill may be processed, sold, and transported throughout the state and the United States unless a state through which the CBD passes or is sold has laws barring CBD.

Finally (and fortunately), based on the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2016 and a federal court case called USA v. Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana, industrial hemp may be processed, transported to, and sold in states that haven't enacted industrial hemp laws pursuant to the 2014 Farm Bill.

Therapeutic Properties of CBD:

It is an established scientific fact that cannabinoids and other components of cannabis can modulate many physiological systems in the human brain and body. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that trigger cannabinoid receptors in a previously unknown biochemical communication system in the human body, the Endocannabinoid System. CBD directly activates serotonin receptors, causing an anti-anxiety effect as well as a reduction of cravings for addictive substances.

Extensive preclinical research, much of which is sponsored by the U.S. Government, indicates that CBD has potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, neuroprotective and anti-tumoral properties. CBD has also been shown to function as a powerful antioxidant, an immuno-modulator, an antispasmodic, an anti-convulsant, and an anti-psychotic.

CBD in Your Body:

How CBD Works:

It is an established scientific fact that cannabinoids and other components of cannabis can modulate many physiological systems in the human brain and body. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that trigger cannabinoid receptors.

Phytocannabinoids are plant derived compounds that are capable of either directly interacting with cannabinoid receptors, sharing chemical similarities with cannabinoids that allow them to interact with components of the endocannabinoid system of our bodies.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS):

Research on cannabis' effects led directly to one of the most exciting and under reported developments in modern science. The discovery of a previously unknown biochemical communication system in the human body, the Endocannabinoid System, which plays a crucial role in regulating our physiology, mood, and everyday experience.

The discovery of receptors in the brain that respond pharmacologically to cannabis and the subsequent identification of endogenous cannabinoid compounds in our own bodies that bind to these receptors, has significantly advanced our understanding of human biology, health, and disease.

The Endocannabinoid System is a complex signaling network within the bodies of all mammals that utilizes different receptors, regulatory enzymes, and specialized components such as cannabinoids, to control, influence, and regulate various bodily processes. The body produces its own cannabinoids called endogenous cannabinoids or endocannabinoids. These and cannabinoids interacts with CB1 receptors are concentrated in the central nervous system and the brain. CB2 receptors are concentrated in the peripheral organs and the immune system.
